Resolution Checkpoint...Why I Don't Make New Year Resolutions & Why I Do Make Goals!

On the last Sunday of in December, As I sat for my usual Sunday mani/pedi at The Spa my technician asked “so what are your Resolutions for the New Year?” My response never changes…”I don’t make New Year resolutions.”

Googles definition of Resolution is:  (1) A firm decision to do or not do something. (2) The action of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter.  I don’t need the mark of a New Year to do these things.  Every day I make firm decisions to do or not do things.  Those decisions either actively help me to solve problems, disputes or contentious matters or not.  I am a firm believer that we make resolutions daily consciously & subconsciously.  Results of any sort, comes from the firm choices that we make each moment of our lives; not the ones we make on January 1st.  I challenge you to live in the moment, make firm decisions daily; however, be flexible enough to change those decisions if they are not actively helping you to solve a problem, dispute, or contentious matter.  Just remember that in order to do that you must be able to identify with yourself truthfully.

WHY I DO MAKE GOALS

Googles definition of Goal is: The object of a person’s ambition or effort, an aim or desired result.  It’s important to make goals.  Goals keep up on task/focused (another favorite word of mine).  They give us something to work towards daily.  Hopefully we all want something out of life.   More importantly, the things that we want should in some way improve our quality of life or the lives of those around us; if not both.  They don’t have to be astronomical nor do you have to have a huge list of them.  Remember, results come from a series of small firm decisions.  Decide what you’re going to do, set a goal, crush your goal & then create a new goal….repeat….& you will never have to make another New Year Resolution!

For those of you who do make resolutions/goals I would like to know how things are going? We are entering the third week of February which marks the half way point of the first quarter of the year.  So it's a great Checkpoint. What are some of the things that you set out to do this year, are they NEW/DIFFERENT than in the past and what are you actively doing to make them happen?  Whether you decide to share here or not, I hope that I gave you something to think about. Set some goals for yourself and actively work towards completing them. It brings a great sense of accomplishment and you will have me rooting for you every step of the way!

I'm A Grey-Bae!

For as long as I can remember “hair” has and still is a major topic of discussion.  For most of our childhood, others such as parents, siblings & other family members decided what would be done to our hair.   As we got older and were given more autonomy, those decisions became ours but were and still are greatly influenced by society "what's in."  The hair  industry is booming now more than ever because hair & what we do or don’t do with it, is very important in our community.  It's been over a year since I decided to let mother nature take her course.  What I mean by that is I decided to “go grey on purpose.”  My mother had a beautiful head of sparkly silver.   Although I don’t know what age she started greying, I do know that it is a very strong gene on her side of the family.  My random grey strands became more noticeable the shorter I cut my hair.  I'd see strands of grey here and there, but since I always colored my hair, it wasn't a problem.

Speaking Of Goals...

JULY 2018 MAY 2017 AUGUST 2018 ALONG THE WAY First let me make a  disclaimer: I am not a Doctor or Trainer nor do I consider myself a "Fitness Guru;" however, many of my friends, family members, coworkers and followers have asked me questions regarding my lifestyle change.  Although I am not a professional, I am sharing what has  worked for me on my journey.   I gained quiet a bit of weight during my pregnancy with my oldest son and although my boys are 21 and 15 yrs old; up until November 2016 I carried more weight than I was happy with. During pregnancy with my oldest son I developed hypertension, which was also a part of my family's medical history.   It didn't bother me much because I was considered "healthy" by my Doctors.   My blood pressure always seemed to run high even after I had given birth to him.  My Doctor's and I figured it ran high at appointments due to family history & my fear of Dr. appts. did not make
